The Last Battle

The Last Battle

S.A. FIX – June 4, 2017 (MORNING WORSHIP)

Having shown in technicolor what the hope of the exiled people of God would be, namely the presence of a perfect shepherd-king (Ezek. 34), a place of perfect fruitfulness (Ezekiel 35-36), and a people perfectly renewed and filled with God’s peace by the Spirit (Ezekiel 37), God looks ahead to the final battle at the end of this present evil age. In Ezekiel 38-39 God assures his people that when they are raised to new life and filled with his Spirit, they will find perfect safety in his presence, as he will be their almighty, divine warrior who assures his people of perfect, perpetual protection. We see this in the spitefulness of the forces of sin and evil in the world represented by “Gog,” the sovereignty God displays in his defeat of Gog, and the lasting serenity God assures he will maintain for his people.

The New Covenant reality that Ezekiel foresees by the inspiration of God, is a “New Covenant of Peace.” What a description of what God’s people’s experience will be like in the New Heavens and the New Earth! Ezekiel 37:15-28 shows us that God’s people will be a people at peace…with our place, with other people, and with our Prince of Peace, our Savior, Lord, and King Jesus Christ.

From Rigor Mortis to Resurrection

From Rigor Mortis to Resurrection

S.A. Fix – April 16, 2017 (Morning Worship)

As Ezekiel continues to proclaim the good news of the coming New Creation Kingdom of God, in Ezekiel 37:1-14 he describes what the people of this place will be. They will be people who, though ruined by their sin, have been raised to new life by the Holy Spirit of God himself. What a picture of our resurrection hope in Jesus Christ – dry and lifeless bones raises to new and everlasting life! And then God’s people are rallied to be a mighty “army of God,” not fighting against earthly people and nations, but against the powers of darkness and spiritual forces of evil under the prince of the power of the air, against sin, and death.
