July 19, 2009 – Morning Worship

Monday Galatians 2:15-21 (esp. vss. 17-20); John 12:20-26
How does death lead to life in these passages?

Tuesday Galatians 2:17; Exodus 20:1-21; Romans 7:7-25
In these texts we read these questions: “is the law sin”, “is Christ a servant of sin”. Why these questions? What is the answer?

Wednesday Isaiah 5; Romans 2
Some have said that although the Gentiles were guilty of rejecting Christ, the Jews were doubly guilty. Why? How could that apply to us as Christians?

Thursday Romans 5, 6
Many argue that the gospel (i.e. God’s free gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ alone) just encourages sin, is a license to do evil, that there’s no motivation to obey God (Romans 5:20). How do you answer that?

Friday I Samuel 15; John 3:19-21; Acts 5:1-11; Hebrews 4:12
Calvin said that the law of God is like a mirror (i.e. that it helps us to see ourselves as we really are). Do you agree? How should it affect us?

Saturday Galatians 2:19; John 14:15-24; I John 3; Psalm 119:17-40
“I die to the law”, “I delight in your law”, “if you love me you will keep my commandments”:  how do we put these ideas together?
