Mary, Zechariah, the shepherds, the angels, and Simeon are praising God and filled with joy at the birth of Christ. Now we see a more somber note of falling and rising, of opposition, of Mary’s soul being pierced. How do we put these ideas of great joy and sorrow together in the birth of Christ?
